From Fear to Strength: My Journey as a Thalassemia Warrior

“When I was a kid, I was afraid of injections and transfusions but I didn’t know they would become my best friends.

My name is Hina wajid, I belong to Islamabad. I’m a brave warrior of thalassemia major since I was three years old. At that time, no one knew about thalassemia but as my Grandfather was a Doctor, he knew all the odds of it. I consider myself the luckiest as my parents, siblings, relatives treated me as a normal child and I never felt that I’m going through a chronic illness. With the support and prayers of my parents, I did my Masters in Architecture from IIUI, one of the well reputed universities of Islamabad. Now I’m doing job at a private organization. My colleagues and friends always have my back and support me to their fullest.

Apart from that, I had the talent to gain the skills of art rapidly with minimal practice. I am a painter and a calligrapher. I organized exhibitions at PNCA and topi rakh which went really well.

I want to give a message to all my thalassemic fellows that do not ever consider yourself less than anyone, we also have all those features which normal people have. We are no less than them. Do not let this illness be your footcuff. Live your life the way you want because you are unique.”
